WD SES Driver (32-bit)

For assistance installing the 32-bit version of the SES driver please see the instructions below:

  1. Download the 32-bit version of the SES Driver.

  2. Open the .ZIP File file in the unzipping program of your choice. (Note: The image below is using the built-in unzipping application in Windows 7- your own unzipping program may look different).

  3. Once extracted you will see a WD SES Driver Setup (x86).msi file. Double click on this file to begin the setup.

  4. Wait while the SES Driver installer prepares the installation. This process may take several minutes depending on the speed of your computer.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Click Next again.

  7. Click Install to begin installing the SES driver.

  8. Wait while the installation runs.

  9. Click Finish.

  10. If you are prompted to reboot, restart your computer before using the external hard drive.

  1. Download the most current version of the WD SmartWare software for Windows by following this link: Software for Windows: WD SmartWare

  2. After the download completes, locate the WD SmartWare Disk file in the location it was saved

  3. Open the .ZIP File file in the unzipping program of your choice. (Note: The image below is using the built-in unzipping application in Windows - Using a 3rd party unzipping program may look different)

If the drive was formatted and the WD SmartWare 1.6.X and the contents from the WD external drive were removed, and would like to restore the WD SmartWare software package please follow the instructions below:

Important:SmartWare is supported on macOS Mavericks and earlier only and will not install or run on macOS Yosemite through Sierra. It's best to use Time Machine as a backup solution for Mac. Please see Answer ID 18952: Starting macOS Time Machine Backups to My Passport and External USB Drives for more information.
