I have a Gateway FX540b with a nforce 680i LT SLI motherboard bought in 2009. It came with a Nvidia GeForce 8600 GS 256mb video. According to the specs it has integrated sound.
I wanted to upgrade the video card, nothing to expensive. I have tried two different video cards (ATI Radeon HD5570 1GB and Nvidia GeForce 430 GT, yes I know they are old cards.) but both have disabled my sound. The system detects HDMI audio devices with the new cards, but I don't have speakers connected through HDMI. They are connected to the stock audio connection.
Is there a way to enable the onboard sound. When I go to the BIOS my only options for Integrated Audio is Auto or disable.
I am running Windows Vista 32bit.
I am thinking of buying a sound card so the system will detect the audio from that.
Any thoughts are appreciated
